US pledges $300,000 to support Palau’s hosting of Our Ocean

U.S. Interior Assistant Secretary Doug Domenech announced Tuesday, September 17, that the United States had presented $300,000 to assist in Palau’s hosting of the Our Ocean 2020.

Domenech, who was speaking before guests during the groundbreaking ceremony for the road and dock rehabilitation projects in Palau, said that the grant is intended to assist Palau in the planning for the biggest regional events it is going to host next year.

In a statement, Domenech said that the international conference next year will provide “great potential to bolster future opportunities for Palau…”

Domenech, along with Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Deputy NOAA Administrator Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, was also in Palau this week to co-chair the 42nd annual U.S. Coral Reef Task Force meeting.
