The new United Nations resident coordinator and United Nations Development Program resident representative in the Pacific, Sanaka Samarasinha, had personally met the representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) in Palau at The Penthouse Hotel on November 20.
Samarasinha’s visit was aimed at raising awareness and advocating for partnerships with the CSOs and to boost engagement of societies in the Pacific in the implementation of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) and Agenda for 2030.
Organizations advocating for the rights of women, persons with disabilities, youth, and social protection, among others were able to participate in the discussion.
Samarasinha told CSO representatives during the meeting that he wanted to familiarize himself with the issues that Pacific communities are facing.
Representatives from different CSOs engaged in an open discussion with UN Resident Coordinator and were each given a chance to air their ideas and the kind of work they do for the attainment of the SDGs. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
