Two Tranches of 2015 and 2016 Annual Assistance Funding Provided by Taiwan Government Handed over to Palau

July 17, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Ambassador Michael Y. K. Tseng and Counselor Jason Huang of the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy presented two checks amounting to about 2.33 million US dollars, as the fourth tranche of 2015 annual grant and the fourth tranche of 2016 annual grant, to Hon. Funded projects in this action for 2015 are: (1) Road Constructions and Improvements in Aimeliik, Melekeok, Ngchesar, and Ngeremlengui; (2) Construction of Recreational Parks in Koror, Ngaraard, and Ngarchelong; (3) Ngchesar Traditional Bai Restoration; (4) Ngardmau Water Distribution Line; (5) Babeldaob Landfill/Soled Waste Development; (6) MCCA Civic Center Improvements; (7) Echang Basketball Court Roofing & Solar Lighting; (8) Track and Field Resurfacing Project; (9) National Archives Capital Building; (10) Capital Standby Generator Repairs & Overhaul.

And for 2016 are: (1) Road Constructions and Improvements in Aimeliik, Airai, Melekeok, Ngaraard, Ngeremlengui, Ngatpang, Ngchesar, Ngiwal; (2) Construction of Recreational Parks in Airai, Ngarchelong, and Ngchesar; (3)Water Distribution Pipes  in Ngarchelong, and Peleliu; (4) Ngchesar Bai Improvements; (5) Peleliu State Capital Building; (6) MCCA Civic Center Improvements; (7) Marine Resource Hatchery Improvements; (8) BOA Ngchesar Station Repairs & Improvement; (9) BNH Roof Repairs & Improvements.

The Taiwan Government is happy to offer assistance in Palau’s national development and to help improve living standard and convenience of the Palauan people. Taiwan Embassy will continue working closely with the Palauan government to ensure all projects proceed effectively and efficiently. Apart from annual stimulus grants majorly for infrastructure, Taiwan also provides scholarship to students, technical assistance for local agriculture and aquaculture farmers through Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM), and medical cooperation including referral program, and efforts to combat NCDs.

Despite the economy growth rate has not been as satisfactory as it had expected in the past years, Taiwan government still treasures the cordial and brotherhood-like relationship with the ROP and will keep her commitment to render continuous assistance to the people and government of Palau.
