Republic of China – Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen is set to visit Palau for the first time around the end of March.

President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. announced the news during a leadership meeting held in Palasia Hotel last January 11.

The planned state visit was arranged during Remengesau’s state visit to Taiwan last year.

If pushed through, this is going to be the second time that a president of Taiwan is visiting Palau. It was in 2006 when Former Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian visited Palau as part of the tour to visit its Pacific Island allies.

China, under the “One China” principle, insists that Taiwan is part of its territory but the latter considers itself a sovereign country. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
