Taiwan-Palau pig farming training course held in Ngchesar

The Taiwan-Palau Animal Production Project Manager (APPM)  held a training course for pig farmers and some PCC students in Ngchesar State on Friday last week.

Professor Hsia who is the APPM focused on prevention of African swine fever (ASF) and tagging pigs for identification and traceability purposes. ASF is a highly contagious viral disease that affects pigs of all ages with up to 100% mortality, though ASF has no impact on human health.

The trace-ability system is an important animal health and food safety system. Protecting the country from ASF invasion is a big issue.

Pig ear tagging identification system can be called ID cards for pigs. The carcasses are identified after slaughter, and the meat can also be traced back later in the process. (PR)
