Study shows huge percentage of Palau households has access to basic services

Internet service shows lowest access

(Koror, Palau) Household Income and Expenditure Survey of 2014 shows that large percentage of households in Palau have access to basic public services such as water, power and sewer systems.

According to the report, 99% of all household in urban areas (Koror & Airai) are connected to public water system. 97% of those in rural areas (all other States except south west islands States) are connected also to public water system. [restrict]

100% of households in urban areas (Koror & Airai) are connected to the power grid. 98.6% of those in rural areas (all other States except south west island States) are also connected to the public power grid.

Study also reveals that 68% of homes in urban areas are connected to public sewer system and 32% are using septic tanks.  For households in rural areas, only 13% have connection to public sewer system and 88% use septic tanks and others.

For telecommunication services, 72% of households in both urban and rural areas have connection to landline phone connection, of which 99% have working landline phones.  90% of those in urban (Koror & Airai) owned mobile phones and 64% of those in rural areas (all other States except south west island States) also own mobile phones.  99% of those in urban areas say that they have cell phone signals while 92% of those in rural areas say they have cell phone signal.

Internet services shows the least amount of access, with only 12.1% of all household (urban &rural)  saying that they have wired internet access in their homes. 14.5% says they have wireless internet access. Most of those connected says they are using services from Palau National Communications Corporation.

Household Income and Expenditure Survey of 2014 was conducted over a period of one covering 79.5% of households in Palau (both urban and rural households).  Total estimated households in Palau in the 2014 HIES was 5,946 including private dwellings and workers quarters. [/restrict]
