May 9, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Governors, speakers and legislators of Babeldaob States applauded as President Remengesau announced that all states connecting roads will be completed within the next 3 years at the meeting to report on first 100 days accomplishments and the outlook of the next 3 years for the Republic. “Most importantly, we have discussed and agreed with Republic of China (Taiwan) that we should go ahead and bid out all the road construction projects and they agreed with us,” stated President Remengesau.
“It is more cost efficient and better not only for the states but also for the contractors. Contractors don’t have to constantly mobilize which is not very cost efficient use of resources,” he added.
Ngchesar, Ngeremlengui, Aimeliik, Ngatpang, Ngardmau and as well as the other east coast States still have large segments of their connecting roads unpaved. This hampers commerce and livelihood of those communities.
The idea is to bid out all the road segments at once and so a company that wins a particular road segment bid knows that each year certain amounts of funds will become available and be able to include that it their work plans so the construction work does not stop but continue until the road is completed.
