Russia Delegation vows to help boost Palau’s tourism in bid for World Expo 2025

A delegation from Russia has vowed to help Palau boost tourism as it seeks the island nation’s support on its bid to host the World Expo on 2025.
On February 27, the Russian delegation led by its Bid Committee head Svetlana Sagaydak met with Vice President Raynold Oilouch, Speaker Sabino Anastacio, Senate President Hokkons Baules to win support for the Expo bid. [restrict]
Oilouch said the expo would be a way to showcase Palau’s tourism industry, which is the country’s top economic driver.
Palau’s top economic driver is its tourism industry and their participation in the expo is also a way to showcase the country.
“You may probably know by now that our main industry in Palau is tourism, one of many factors to consider when Palau decides how to vote, the impact on tourism, yes we get tourists in Japan, we are also very interested in tourists from your country, Oilouch said.
Sagaydak said its ready to forge an agreement with Palau to ensure its leaders that it is serious in helping promote Palau’s tourism, during the expo and after the expo.
“We will figure out how to provide support to each other. We can assure you that Russia always stick to its obligations and with an agreement you will we realize the seriousness of our intentions,” Sagaydak told the Palau officials in the meeting.

The Expo is schedule to be held from March to November 2025 and elections for the hosting of the Expo are due to be held in November this year in Paris, France, at the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) headquarters.
The delegation from Russia are composed of Sagaydak , Ambassador Igor Khovaev of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Palau and members of the Russia World Expo 2025 Bid Committee.
Vice President Oilouch in the meeting said “Russia’s proposal to host the 2025 World Expo is “interesting and quite inviting.”
The delegation also met with Minister of Cultural Affairs Baklai Temengil and Minister of State Tina Marugg.
The committee from Russia also invited the officials to visit the site of the expo to see themselves the magnitude of the event and how serious it is in hosting the mega event.
The delegation has also visited Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Nauru to rally support for the bid by city of Ekaterinburg to host the World Expo in 2025.
Other candidates of the Expo 2025 are Osaka, Japan and Baku.Azerbajan.
World Expos, are organized every five years. They can last up to six months, and international participants can build their own pavilions on the Expo site.
The most recent World Expo was held in the city of Milan, Italy, in 2015, under the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The next world expo will be held in Dubai (UAE) between 20 October 2020 and 10 April 2021 under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. [/restrict]
