RSVP regional program for sports launched

The new regional program started in Suva, Fiji (Sept, 2017) that aims to maximize the contribution of sport to sustainable development and promote national and regional policy development in the Pacific. “Raising the Voice for Sport in the Pacific” looks to strengthen regional coordination and advocacy, by developing concrete mechanisms for influencing policy processes across consultation, development, implementation and monitoring in sport. Other policy areas such as health, education, gender, disability, and youth hold high value in the development journey. [restrict]

Sixteen participants took part in the three-day capacity building workshop from eight target Pacific Island countries including Fiji, FSM, Kiribati, Palau, PNG, Samoa, Vanuatu and Tuvalu.

The regional initiative was funded by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the European Union through the Strengthening of the Non-State Actors (NSAs) engagement in regional policy development and implementation program. RVSP is led by Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) in partnership with Sport Matters and UNESCO.

Strengthening the voice of non-state actors will help inform regional policy with evidence based approaches, and to harness the largely untapped potential of sport to contribute to regional development and harmonization across health, education, gender equality, social inclusion, peace-building, and economic empowerment.

Sport foresees its role in national and regional development as a custodian of our Blue Pacific’s sovereignty through healthier and more productive population. [/restrict]
