July 13, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Number of reported cases of dengue is declining according to initial report from Bureau of Public Health of the Ministry of Health. Two weeks into month of July, total of 12 cases were reported. [restrict]
In June, the highest number of cases was reported at 122 and prior to that in May saw 74 reported cases.
The drop in number of cases is attributed to widespread campaign about the virus and the aggressive clean-up efforts nationwide. The effect of the clean-up efforts was demonstrated by the two hamlets of Koror that had most cases, Ngermid and Ngerchemai. After these two hamlets were identified, concentrated effort was focused on getting them cleaned up. In doing so, they were able to see drop in reported cases compared to other hamlets.
Ministry of Health continues to urge people to take precautions, maintain clean environment, reducepotential breeding grounds, and use insect repellents to minimize the chances of getting infected. [/restrict]
