[L-R] Mr. Hiroshi Asai, JICA Volunteer Coordinator; Mr. Tsukasa Maeda, new JICA Volunteer; President Remengesau, Jr; and Ms. Olga Singeo, JICA Program Officer

President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. expressed his appreciation to the Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA)volunteers for their efforts in fostering people-to-people exchange and contribution in nation building on April 9.

A new JICA volunteer, Tsukasa Maeda, also joined the team and is currently assigned to the Palau Community College (PCC) to work on refrigeration and air conditioning.

Welcoming Maeda during a courtesy visit held at the office of the President on April 9, President Remengesau noted that the support on refrigeration and air conditioning are areas that Palau appreciates.

Maeda joined a long list of volunteers who are actively engaging and providing much-needed support and cooperation in the fields of primary school education, road construction, handicraft, power generation technology, nutrition, mathematics education, physical education, and dental technology.

The volunteers are assigned to various agencies, including the Ministry of Education (MOE), Koror State Government (KSG), Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce (MPIIC).

Maeda revealed the close and friendly relations Palau and Japan shares and Palau’s “pristine” ocean environment are among the reasons why he chose to volunteer in Palau. (PR)
