Remengesau heads to EarthX
President Tommy E. Remengesau is currently attending EarthX Conference in Dallas, Texas this April 20-22 at the invitation of Trammel Crow, founder of EarthX.
Before leaving, President Remengesau signed into law RPPL 10-23, tasking Palau Energy
Administration (PEA) with regulatory authority over the use, production and sale of energy in Palau. He expressed that such agency will enable Palau to grow to meet its goal of 45% renewable energy by year 2025 and meet its obligations under the Paris Agreement.
In addition, Gerald Tulop of the PEA Board at the press conference on Wednesday stated that Palau’s current renewable energy use is estimated at 2.6%.
“I am optimistic that we can reach the 45% renewable energy target by 2025. We are on the path to reach that target,” added Mr. Tulop.
Press Secretary Olkeriil Kazuo added that President Remengesau will be meeting with Palau’s partners EarthX and Grid Market while in Texas. The two entities had provided free assessment and technical advice on what Palau will need in order to meet its renewable energy goals by 2025.
On his return trip, Remengesau will be meeting with Nainoa Thompson, PVS President and Pwo navigator and the Polynesian Voyaging Society to seek their support for the upcoming World Oceans Conference in Palau in 2020.
EarthX is the largest environmental expo, conference and film festival in the world. In 2017, it had over 130,000 people in attendance, over 900 exhibitors and 260 speakers. President Remengesau was one of the invited speakers in 2017 EarthX Texas. (L.N. Reklai/Editor)
