President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. and First Lady Debbie Remengesau were in Guam to witness the historic inauguration of Guam’s first woman Governor, Lourdes “Lou” Leon Guerrero, on January 7.
In a social media post by the Office of the President, Remengesau was shown attending an inaugural mass at Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica together with the First Lady on January 6, a day before the inauguration.
Governor Guerrero and Lt. Governor-Elect Joshua Tenorio, who is also making history for being the first openly gay Lt. Governor, were inaugurated at the University of Guam Calvo Field House.
Members of the Guam’s 35th Legislature were also sworn in on the same date including the new attorney general.
Guerrero is the first Democrat to become governor in 16 years, succeeding two Republicans who each had two terms as governors. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
