PVA report continues to show decline in tourists

The Palau Visitors Authority (PVA) report on the number of tourist arrival in Palau has shown a drop 11,827 tourist up till now as compared to last year.

The total number of tourist arrival till June has been 48,250 till while last year it was 60,077 with Chinese tourists being more in number.

While the Chinese still remains the highest nationality visiting Palau the number has dropped by 8,921. This year has shown 16,738 and comparing it to last year till June, 25,659 Chinese tourists visited Palau with a total of 41,317 the entire year.

The month of June has seen a significant dip in the number of tourist compared to other months this year. The arrival from Japan has gone down to 657, South Korea has gone down to 660, Europe has gone down to 122.

In the earlier months this year, Japanese tourists remained about 1,000 with March seeing the highest rise in Japanese tourist, 2,437, visiting Palau for this year.

However, this is still less compared to the March of last year where Palau saw 3,319 Japanese coming in.

Multiple restaurants have been complaining about the business not running smoothly as the number of tourists visiting Palau has dropped.

Although visitors in from Taiwan (1,402), US/Canada (626) has shown an increase in the month of June when compared to May (1,395, 610) but when compared to the previous years June US/Canada has less while visitors from Taiwan are more. Taiwan has shown an increase of 374 compared to same month last year that had 1,028 arrivals. (Eshan Kalyanikar)
