PVA Managing Director chairs PATA Micronesia
The Micronesian Chapter of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is welcoming the New Year with the newly elected PATA Micronesia Chapter Chairwoman, Palau Visitors Authority Managing Director, Ms. Stephanie Brenges Nakamura! Beginning January 1st, 2019, Pilar Laguaña passes on the torch to Ms. Nakamura as she will be the new Chairwoman of PATA Micronesia Chapter, making her the first Palauan woman to assume the position as Chairperson of PATA Micronesia. Previous Chairperson holders from Palau were his excellency Ambassador of Palau to Japan Francis Matsutaro in the mid-1990’s and former Palau Visitors Authority Managing Director Darin De Leon in the mid-2000’s.
Ms. Laguaña remains on Board as the Immediate Past Chairwoman from Guam, Paula Monk as Vice Chairwoman from Guam, Mark Manglona as Treasurer from Guam, Marstella Jack as Secretary from Pohnpei and Perdus Ehsa Jr. as Alternate Board Member from Pohnpei.
PATA Micronesia Chapter is an association established in 1986, a body comprising of 70 members from both the public and private sectors, representing the region of Micronesia. The dawning of this organization was a result of the increasing tourism interests in the Micronesia region. Since then, PATA Micronesia Chapter’s mission has been to the development of our regional tourism industry with strategies that are environmentally sensitive, respect Micronesian cultures, adhere to high operational standards and provide opportunity for education, training and gainful employment among the resident populations of our Micronesian membership.
This organization’s internationally recognized awards and overall success is accredited to the many leaders of Micronesia, whom have so passionately formed a strong union between the various islands in Micronesia for over 30 years.
In 2005, Ms. Nakamura completed her Associate of Science in Travel & Tourism at Kapio`lani Community College then, quickly pursued her Bachelor of Science degree in the School of Travel Industry Management with an emphasis in Hospitality at University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2007. Three years later, Nakamura graduated with a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in San Diego, California in 2010.
In addition to Ms. Nakamura’s astounding educational background, she holds a three-year experience as an Instructor/Program Chair for the Palau Tourism & Hospitality School of Excellence at Palau Community College in the Republic of Palau. Currently, Nakamura is the Managing Director of Palau Visitor’s Authority and has been the PVA’s Managing Director for nearly two years.
With Stephanie Nakamura’s educational career in tourism and hospitality and work experience, she expresses her enthusiasm in undertaking this new journey. Although a hefty role to uphold, Nakamura is treading in familiar waters. Her passion, dedication, leadership skills and her people skills are key traits that have continued her success story. Ms. Stephanie Nakamura carries a deep passion for Micronesia and she believes that with the years of experience and incredible talent the board members of PATA Micronesia Chapter possess, together they will continue to forge ahead all while living the PATA mission.
