On December 16, 2016, PICRC, Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yimnang Golbuu gave a presentation to update the esteemed Council of Chiefs about the ongoing research and educational activities that have taken place this year and actions moving forward into 2017.  After completing the presentation, Dr. Golbuu requested the support from the Council of Chiefs to co-host its annual celebration fundraiser that will take place at the Center on January 18, 2017.

The esteemed Chiefs gave their unanimous support and commended PICRC for its efforts to research Palau’s unique and precious marine resources. High Chief Ibedul commended PICRC on their efforts, “The Chiefs have always supported and continue to support PICRC, for your actions in research and educational activities to support conservation efforts for Palau.”  High Chief Reklai also applauded the Center’s efforts saying, “I am proud of the Center’s focus on developing young Palauans to be scientists and researchers, as well as providing opportunities for Palauans with science degrees to work and continue to develop.”

President Remengesau chaired the Palau Task Force that worked with Japanese and American counterparts to build PICRC.  Ever since then, he has been a strong supporter of PICRC and its development.

PICRC is Palau’s only research center and aquarium located at the end of M-dock road.  Palau International Coral Reef Center will be commemorating its 16th year with the theme: ‘Visionaries – Leading Conservation Forward’ to honor the founders of the Center that had the vision to establish a research center of excellence and those visionaries today who continue to lead conservation forward.   High Chief Ibedul and President Remengesau were key visionaries that enabled the establishment of the Center to be located where it is today.
