The Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) had expressed apologies for the prolonged power outage that occurred in Babeldaob on December 27 from 2pm to 10pm.
The PPUC, in a statement sent to the media, explained that the power outage was caused by the on-going repair of the insulator at the Kokusai Substation.
The office had also announced through the radio, social media, and text message the occurrence of the power outage.
An official report provided by Power Generation Division (PGD) Manager Tito Cabunangan earlier stated that the oil circuit breaker No. 2 at Aimeliik Substation experienced a technical problem which prolonged the emergency power outage affecting most of Babeldaob from East to West Coast, North Babeldaob, and all the way to Ngerderar in Aimeliik.
PPUC technicians, electricians, and operators worked throughout the night to restore the power sooner.
With most of Babeldaob experiencing brownout, PPUC’s Customer Service was flooded by numerous phone calls.
“PPUC apologizes to our customers who tried calling but could not get an answer. At this time, PPUC has three direct lines- 488-3870/72/77 which are all transferred to one hotline after working hours,” PPUC’s announcement read.
“Customer Service representatives do their best to help each and every one of our customers,’ it added.
