He said this after PM O’Neill officially close the three-day Summit with the overall theme – Repositioning the ACP Group to address the challenges of Sustainable Development – that ended yesterday with the Port Moresby Declaration and the Waigani Communique.
PM O’Neill said the leaders have deliberated on the three subthemes of the summit and agreed that the theme was timely and relevant in view of the current economical and political threats.
The global endorsement of these three issues has been legally binding, particularly the Paris Agreement that sets out the parameters of global cooperation and the action on climate change.
He said on the agenda of sustainable development and the issue on financing for development.
“The summit has called for the ratification and full implementation of these international commitments which are key to achieving sustainable development for ACP States.
“On peace and security, leaders have agreed that political stability, peace and security are prerequisites for economic and social development. Leaders have shown commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment and strengthening of solidarity among the ACP States.”
Mr O’Neill said the Summit has also received and deliberated on the Report by the Eminent Persons Group presented by the former President of Nigeria, the chair of the working group of the EPG. PNG Post-Courier [/restrict]
