The Palau International Coral Reef Center believes strongly in hiring highly competent staff and investing in their continued professional development.
Jenna Mersai and Lbong Walter, both under the Administration Department at PICRC, had the opportunity to participate in a professional development course offered by the Graduate School USA entitled “Accounting for Government Entities.”
This course was held for four days from July 15 to 18 at the Marine Law compound in Malakal, Koror.
The course included lessons on bookkeeping, following transactions through the accounting cycle, understanding basic concepts of internal control, and understanding the unique features of governmental accounting.
“The training was very helpful for me in the work that I do every day,” Ms. Walter said when asked about her experience at the training.
Ms. Mersai added, “I was able to learn a lot about our government and its financial standing through the audit reports, and I got to understand how our government financial system works and how PICRC relates to it. Our instructor was awesome enough to help me individually to identify and correct what needs to be done in my workplace to improve our audit reports.”
PICRC will continue to engage their staff in relevant training programs and thanks the public, as well as partner agencies, for their interest and continued support in this endeavor. (PR)
