Peleliu advances to PNBL Championship

Monday, June 25, Asahi Baseball Field:  Determined to force a third and final game, Meyuns, the youngest PNBL team pushed Peleliu to the brink but Peleliu re-grouped and came from behind to win in the final inning with a score of 5 – 4.

The visitors Peleliu score 1 run in the top of the first inning when Duch Salomon walked to first, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by clean-up batter Melengis Uchel.  Peleliu starter Omsuul Mikel who did not give up a hit in the first two innings, began counting stars in the overcast skies over Asahi Field in the bottom of the third inning when Meyuns batters scored 4 runs on six singles by RT Tellei, Mesikt Sadang, Mitch Mamis (2 RBI), Kerai Blank (1 RBI), Mad Ngiramouai and Lofton Edward (1 RBI) to take a 4 to 1 lead.

Meyuns starter Idesiar Mitsur kept Peleliu scoreless in the 3rd and 4th allowing a double to Duch and a single to Jeremy.  In the top of the 5th, Peleliu cut the lead to 4 – 3 on a single by Sal Masang, another walks to Duch and a 2-RBI single by clean-up batter Melengis.  In the sixth Omsuul gave up a single to Mitch and a base-on-ball to Kerai, then Peleiu ace pitcher Tsiuki took the mound and quickly got two outs on a 5-4-3 double-play off the bat of Mad, and a third out on a routine grounder to second baseman by Lofton.  In the bottom half of the frame, Tsiuki continued his mastery of Meyuns batters by retiring three in quick succession.

In the top of the seventh, Meyuns reliever Tabsul walked Ngirarois, Duch and Omsuul to load the bases for veteran Mele who demonstrated his offensive prowess by blasting a 2-RBI double past the speedy Center Fielder Mitch to the center-right gap, bringing in the tying run and the go-ahead run which proved to be the winning run when Tsiuki mowed down the final three Meyuns batters in the bottom of the final inning.  Mitch led Meyuns offense with 2 singles and 2 RBIs and Melengis led Peleliu with a single and a double and 3 RBIs.  Defensively, Tsiuki earned a win and Tabsul was charged with a loss.

Peleliu will play Oldiais for the 2018 PNBL Championship beginning on Wednesday and Meyuns plays Ngerchlong Blue Sharks on Tuesday night.
