August 1, 2016 (Koror) Jackline Pedro, a Palau High School social studies teacher, wins the 2016 Teacher of the Year Award. Out of 20 teachers nominated from all the public and private schools in Palau, she was selected the winner of the 2016 Teacher of the Year.   As winner of the Teacher of the Year Award, Ms. Pedro gets a special plaque and Certificate of Recognition from the Ministry of Education, as well as $3,100.00 in cash and a special ring of recognition for this prestigious award. Ms. Cheryl Adachi of Meyuns Elementary School is the second place winner and received a Certificate of Recognition and $2,600.00. The third place winner is Eric Reklai of G.B. Harris Elementary School who also received a Certificate of Recognition and $1,100.00.

All the other nominees received certificates of recognition and $600 per nominee.  “This year marks almost 20 years since this program was initiated and the amount of cash awards doubled this year,” reported Chief Raynold Mechol of the Ministry of Education.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Principal Smyth Rdang of Palau High School for believing in me and encouraging me,” expressed Ms. Perdo in her speech to educators yesterday.   She went on to express her appreciation to her colleagues and support staff at Palau High School who had supported her and made teaching a rewarding job.

The winners and the nominees of the 2016 Teacher of the Year Award were announced yesterday during the 22nd Education Convention which is slated to continue until Wednesday, August 3, 2016. [/restrict]
