Sunday, June 8th 2019 – Apia Samoa. In tough windy and choppy conditions, Team Palau’s Noel Keane hammered out a beauty to place 5th overall out of the 11 men who swam the 5K Open Water Race at the Pacific Games in Samoa.
Osisang Chilton, in the female 5K swimming competition, also had a good race placing 7th out of the 9 women who swam the event.
“It was so good to see the diversity of nations represented here today, and Palau showed that we can really hold up with many of the big teams here. Tomorrow starts the pool competition which will be for the next 5 days,” the Palau National Olympic Committee (PNOC) statement sent to the Times read.
Palau’s Beach Volleyball Men also played against Cook Island on a best of 3 sets.
Palau took the first set with a score of 21-13 but Cook Island fought back to take the second set 21-15. Palau made quick adjustment and follow through to beat Cook Island. Tuesday June 9th they are scheduled to play against the host Country (Samoa).
Meanwhile, the women’s team will play their first game at 9:45 am Samoa time against Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Table Tennis team played in the morning as they fell short to Fiji with a series of 3-1 on best of 5 sets. Later in the afternoon they challenged Samoa and took 3-2 series and moved on to the next round. Tuesday July 9th 2019 they will be playing against New Caledonia at 1:00 pm Samoa Time.
Palau’s Canoe Team will also begin their race tomorrow at 9am (Samoa time) starting with V1 Men’s where Jimmy Jonas Jr. will be representing us at the men’s race. Women’s V6 Race will be later in the afternoon as they will go up against the top team in the pacific which includes Samoa, Tahiti, New Caledonia.
