What: Pacific Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing Annual Conference
When: Monday, 28 November 2016 – Friday, 02 December 2016
Where: Japan-Pacific ICT Centre, The University of the South Pacific, Suva
Time: 8:50am (Conference Opening) [restrict]
The Pacific Community’s (SPC) Geoscience Division, the Fiji Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and The University of the South Pacific (USP) are co-hosting this event, as they have been doing for the last 17 years.
With hi-tech capabilities and breakthroughs in satellite imagery, maps are able to give so much more information that can help policy makers, regulators and the general public make more informed decisions.
This is why scientists, practitioners, academics, policy makers and the private sector gather annually to share knowledge on technology, lessons learned and new applications from Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing (GIS/RS), which are the information systems that make the maps.
This year the biggest annual gathering of the Pacific GIS/RS Conference is happening at the USP Japan-Pacific ICT Centre.
Participants will be immersed in breakthroughs from GIS/RS applications, lessons learned from recent natural disasters and technologies such as drones, right through to how utility companies map their data — all of which help to better define data and information for reflection, projections and trends.
