Over 6K tourists visit Palau in October
Only 6,217 tourists visited Palau last October, a number that pales in comparison to the sum of tourists that visited the country in the same month last year which was recorded at 9,622, according to October Statistics provided by the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA).
The PVA statistics also revealed that this year’s October arrivals shows a decrease of 816 tourists compared to the September arrivals of 7,033.
The People’s Republic of China (PRC), which remains to be Palau’s biggest tourism market, still continues to show a downward trend from a record of 5,320 tourists in the same month last year to only 2,028 last month, hence representing a decrease of 3,292. In September this year, a total of 2,440 Chinese tourists visited Palau, which shows a decrease of 412 from last month’s arrivals.
Visitors from Europe in October this year, however, shows an upward trend with 585 tourists compared to only 383 tourists in the same month last year and only 178 tourists in September. The Europe tourist arrivals include visitors from Russia.
Meanwhile, other markets that showed a slight decrease in tourist numbers in October include Japan with 1,025 arrivals, South Korea with 1,047, US/Canada with 497 arrivals, and Taiwan with 751.
PVA also noted that China Airlines reduced their flights to Palau in October. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
