Nemo conducts mass rescue exercise

A Mass rescue exercise will be conducted by the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) in partnership with the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) on April 10 in the afternoon.

Nemo urged the public to restrict all boating activities in the waters adjacent to the Division of Marine Law Enforcement in Malakal, around 100 meters from the Marine Law dock, as there will be persons in the water, who will be doing activities as part of the exercise.

The mass rescue operation exercise is a civil search and rescue activity that is intended for conducting immediate assistance to a large number of persons in distress, such that the capabilities normally available to search and rescue authorities are inadequate.

The exercise is coordinated by various agencies such as the MOJ, Ministry of Health, MPIIC, PNMS, SAR Committee, Palau Red Cross, Bureau of Aviation, ARFF, NEMO, and Koror State Rangers.

It is the first of the two exercises that is part of the Palau’s Mass Rescue Operations Plan which was signed in November 2017. (Rhealyn C. Pojas/Reporter)
