MOH Holds PALS Training
The Republic of Palau Ministry of Health (MOH) held a Pediatric Advanced Life Support Training (PALS
Training) for its medical staff from September 27, 2018 to September 28, 2018. Instructors for the PALS Training were Dr. Yuriko Bechessrak, Dr. Catherine Decherong, and Dr. Myra Adelbai-Fraser. The training was held at the Medical Library of Belau National Hospital (BNH). A total of six (6) medical professionals from the hospital participated in the training.
PALS is the proper application of medical knowledge & skills designed to assist healthcare providers with stabilizing the conditions of infants or children who are critically ill. Topics covered during the training included basic life support, treatment of critically ill infants & children, and management of respiratory emergencies. Participants also reviewed PALS algorithms—a set of clinical interventions that outline steps for improving the medical condition of children in life-threatening emergencies. Medical professionals who completed the training will be well-instructed to provide the proper medical care for children in critical medical condition.
In August, a PALS Training was also conducted for five (5) medical staff from the Belau National Hospital.
The next PALS Training is scheduled for November 15-16, 2018. MOH will also be providing Advanced Cardiac Life Support Training (ACLS) on October 11-12, 2018; October 25-26, 2018 and November 29-30, 2018.
