MOE bares wall of fame for outstanding teachers

The Ministry of Education (MOE) had unveiled a wall of fame to honor the 24 outstanding teachers of Palau on Friday, May 3.

Out of the 24 Teacher of the Year awardees since Palau had gained its independence in 1994, 22 were able to attend the unveiling program which was held at the MOE office and was graced by President Tommy Remengesau, Jr.

Education Minister Sinton Soalablai told Island Times in an interview that the idea for putting up the wall of fame is to immortalize the names of the teachers who had been recognized for their outstanding performances and at the same time, encourage other educators to aim for the title.

The wall of fame, which is situated inside the center of the MOE office, bears the names of all the teachers who had received the Teacher of the Year award including their photos, schools where they teach, and the grade level they are teaching.

Minister Soalablai said that it is fortunate that the awardees were still alive to this date to witness the program. There were only two awardees who were not able to attend the program – one of them is currently residing in the states while the other one was not reached in time for the event, according to the minister.

The Teacher of the Year program had been established since Palau had gained its independence. Another teacher will be awarded this year during the Education Convention slated July. (By Rhealyn C. Pojas)
