September 15, 2016 (Ngerulmud) HB 9-209-25S, HD1, SD1, a bill to restore Land Court’s ability to hear land cases and make determinations, passed the Senate and sent to the House.
The House rejected Senate’s version at their 28th Special session yesterday because the Senate version removed the proposal to re-open public land claims. [restrict]
Therefore, the House bill 9-209-25S, HD1, SD1 will now go to Conference Committee of both houses.
The bill is one of the 2 bills that is creating heat in both houses of the Olbiil Era Kelulau. The House bill which aims to restore the full functions of Land Court and remove deadline for those functions carries a controversial proposal to re-open claims for public lands.
In the meantime, Land Court remains without power to hear land cases or make any determination of ownership of land. [/restrict]
