Koror-Airai road rehab project ground breaking on Tuesday

A ground breaking ceremony for Koror-Airai road rehabilitation project is to be held across PRA Happy Landing on Tuesday this week at 10 AM.The project is under the Capital Improvement Program led by Bureau of Public Works.

The project funded by Compact of Free Association Infrastructure Funds has 4 packages.

Package A is Airport Intersection to Airai Water Treatment Plant, Package B is T-Dock Intersection to Ice Box Park, Package C is PVA Intersection to Palau Pacific Resortand Package D is Road Signage and Markers Upgrade for Koror and Airai.

Surangel& Sons Construction Company is the contractor for all the four packages and the contract amount is $6.2 million. However, the contract is still pending approval.

In earlier interview with Island Times, BPW Director Brian Melairei said, “The Government is waiting for SSCC to submit the required project insurances so that a formal contract agreement can be executed.”

The welcoming remarks for the ground breaking ceremony will be delivered by Minister of Infrastructure, Industries & Commerce Charles Obichang.

Douglas Domenech who serves as an Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Insular Areas and International Affairs under the US Department of Interior will be giving special remarks at the event.

Melaireisaid that all rock materials needed for paving works will be imported from the Philippines.

With delivery expected towards the month of December, the work for the project will begin in December. The scheduled date for completion is June 30, 2020. (Eshan Kalyanikar)
