Featuring the Junior Statemen’s Program, the Palauan Night Market was held on Friday, May 27th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Ernguul Central Park.

Live entertainment was provided by local favorites Wei Wei and Larson.  [restrict] The Juniors Statemen’s Dancers also performed both Contemporary and Women’s Traditional dances. In addition to the performances, the Junior Statemen’s Program provided kids’ face painting and food sales of ongraol (tapioca, taro, rice), odoim (delul cherangel ma chum, poke sashimi, grilled fish, BBQ chicken), and other favorites like aho, subliwal, demok, cheremrum, molech, kimchee, and mengur. Palau Community Action Agency gave away free seedlings as part of their Home Gardening Program.

Along with the regular night market vendors, PVA featured the All States table, with favorites such as rekung (land crabs) and sualou (woven basket) bentos, betel nut, fruit, and more, providing visitors a chance to try Palauan food specialties. Clothing, handicrafts, and other gift ideas were also sold. With a total of 18 vendors, throughout the evening there were over 1,100 visitors to the night market, contributing to $8,874.34 in total sales.

The night markets were created for small business owners and budding entrepreneurs to have an opportunity to display and sell their products. In addition, visitors will have the chance to mix and mingle with local Palauans. If you are interested in participating as a vendor in the night markets, please contact the Palau Visitors Authority at 488-1930/2793. [/restrict]
