IP&E Scholarship Recipients at PICRC
During a meeting earlier this month, October 17, 2016, to thank long time friend and supporter of Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC), Delegate Frank Kyota, it was discovered that researchers Lukes Isechal and Evelyn Otto were recipients of the IP&E scholarship when they graduated high school to pursue their college education. restrict]
Lukes Isechal was the first recipient of the IP&E scholarship in 1994, when she graduated from Mindzenty High School. Lukes completed her master’s studies in Ecohydrology at the University of Algarve in Portugal. Before that, she graduated from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. After completion of her master’s program in February, Lukes returned to PICRC assuming her position as a full-time researcher.
Evelyn Otto recently departed to Okinawa, Japan to continue her master’s program at the University of the Ryukuyus. She had spent the past eight weeks collecting samples for her study on the impacts of sewage outflow on coral reef as part of master’s studies. Evelyn also received an IP&E scholarship in 2007 when she graduated from Mindzenty High School.
Both researchers are a good examples of return on investment that IP&E has built its legacy in Palau in helping Palauans further their education and then investing in environment with PICRC. IP&E showcases the ideal company model for corporate social and environmental responsibility. Moreover, IP&E’s partnership with PICRC is a good example of public and private relationship in building capacity in Palauans and protecting the Environment. [/restrict]
