December 14, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Human Trafficking Office established under the Ministry of Justice has opened its doors for service. The office is manned by Mr. Warren Umetaro and officers from the Narcotics Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Public Safety and Immigration and Labor have been assigned to the new office to handle all human trafficking cases. On October 10 of this year, President Remengesau Jr. established a Human Trafficking Taskforce. Its primary task was to prepare and submit a report to the President addressing finding in the TIP Report and recommending actions to take to improve Palau’s effort in combating human trafficking.
The Taskforce chaired by Attorney General Ernestine Rengiil submitted the report outlining their progress and listed human trafficking cases pursued by the Office of the Attorney General.
Palau is currently developing a national plan with assistance from the Office of Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Person in Washington, DC.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Justice has established an office to expand the work to address the human trafficking issues. [/restrict]
