Four Palauans namely Janee Kloulchad, Paige Tutii, Jake Meltel and Dana Keibo received Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) Certificates from Ambassador Wallace M.G. Chow at the Taiwan Embassy on July 3, 2019.

Ambassador Chow congratulated them for finishing “2018 Youth Chinese Language Training Project in the Pacific” and wished the training course could assist them in their career.

Janee Kloulchad said the language training project is helpful to her work in the Bureau of Immigration since Palau is one of the favorite Asian tourist destinations. Now she can talk to Taiwan and Chinese tourists if they need assistance. She also went to travel during the training course in Taiwan, which she had wonderful time there.

Janee Kloulchad, Paige Tutii, Jake Meltel and Dana Keibo attended the language training in last August in Taiwan along with some 40 young people from Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Belize. After 3 months of intensive language training, most of the students passed Level 1 reading and oral language tests.

Ambassador Chow said, the demand of learning new languages has increased in the era of globalization. The distance between people can be quickly bridged and linked once they speak the same language. We believe through this cultural exchange, it will bring the people of Taiwan and Palau closer. (PR)
