March 27, 2017 (Koror, Palau) A report of a possible non-native snake found in Ngerbeched yesterday, sent a number of calls and inquiries to the Office of Quarantine.

“No, it is not a foreign species or an unknown snake that we found,” stated a Quarantine Officer when call was placed to their office. [restrict]

“It’s a local snake, kemairs that we found”, he stressed. “And we didn’t call to report the snake, we don’t report such findings to the media,” he added.

Calls of an unidentified “foreign” looking large snake found in Ngerbeched were made to media outlets yesterday and circulated around offices.

“Kemairs” is the local name given to mud snake or snakes that live in mangroves or around water ways.  The subspecies called cerebus dunsoni or Palau Bockadam or Palau dog-faced mud snake is endemic to Palau. [/restrict]
