EO to establish monitoring framework for 2030 SDGs inked
President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. signed an executive order establishing a monitoring and evaluation framework for the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
Executive order no. 419, which was signed by Remengesau on December 28, mandated the Bureau of Budget and Planning of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to establish a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework for the SDG implementation.
The executive order stated that the 17 UN SDGs can be best accomplished if they are incorporated in the country’s overall planning framework.
“…this allows the government to monitor progress and improve performance where necessary, while working to expand economic, social, and environmental opportunities and protections,” the executive order read.
The EO also sets objectives of the framework which include tracking of information to measure the progress and effectiveness of the SDG implementation, ensuring that the implementations are inclusive and mainstreamed, among others.
It also called for the establishment of SDG working groups who will be tasked specific responsibilities in line with the implementation of the SDG. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
