Educational festivities held at PICRC’s to celebrate its 17th Anniversary
On January 10-11, Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) organized special activities for students to participate in as part of the 17th anniversary celebrations. Students from all over Palau took part in the special 17th anniversary program. Over 400 students ranging from 1st to 12th grade joined to participate in the festivities. [restrict]
During the celebration, students learned about the importance of data collection for fisheries management. Students learned about the important equipment researchers use to collect data and were given a chance to practice measuring fish using stereo-video footage. Other activities included a tour of the Palau Aquarium and a presentation of the theme for the 2019 Arts and Tides Calendar contest. Students also participated in face painting, sustainable fishing games, and arts and crafts during the mini-carnival.
PICRC would like to thank everyone who stopped by to join in on the celebration. When PICRC was established 17 years ago it was done so for the people. The theme for this year’s anniversary, “People first through conservation” is meant to highlight that mission. These festivities are held each year to bring everyone together to celebrate PICRC and remember what conservation is all about.
For the entire month of January Palau Aquarium will offer free entry for all Palauans and residents. Stop by with your family and friends, view new exhibits, enhanced tank displays, and come celebrate 17 years of Palau’s leading research center and aquarium. [/restrict]
