Doctors from Taiwan assist medical program in Palau

Since February, two doctors from the Republic of China–Taiwan have been assisting with the Taiwan Medical Program (TMP) in Palau.

Dr. Chih Kai Hsu and Dr. Kun Han Lee are medical school graduates who have been conducting nutrition health education covering topics such as the “Essential Nutrients in Fruits Commonly Seen in Palau” and “The Sugar Content in Food and the Effect of Excessive Intake of Sugar.

In addition to health education, Dr. Hsu and Dr. Lee also designed & taught a five-week course covering nutrition topics such as food groups, food servings, healthy diets, physical activity/exercise, and the cultivation of healthy eating habits among children in order to prevent an increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Palau.

TMP is a program supported by the Shin Kong Wu Ho Su Memorial Hospital (SKH) in partnership with the Republic of Palau Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Education (MOE), the Embassy of the Republic China–Taiwan in Palau, the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF), and the Taiwan Technical Mission.

Initiated in 2015, the School Health Program supports the improvement of the health status of Palau’s people by cultivating healthy lifestyle choices at an early age. It is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Shin Kong Hospital, the Palau Ministry of Education, and the Palau Ministry of Health. (PR)
