The court on Monday, December 17, granted Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to Chief Ngiraked Yukiwo Dengokl of Airai State to keep a deceased non-clan ranking member of Tmeleu Clan of Ordomel, Airai State from being buried in a plot of land called Ngerkiu that is traditionally held by high chief Ngiraked of Airai State.

A civil case was also filed on the same day to keep such burial from taking place.

According to the filed document, the property is where bearers of the title of Ngiraked of Tmeleu clan are buried.  Document also asserts that the body of the departed individual proposed to be buried on this plot of land last Tuesday has never bore the title of Ngiraked and is a member of Ngerchedok clan of Ngebuked, Ngaraard and not of Tmeleu clan of Airai.

Attempted talks to prevent the burial went unheeded and work to clear the site for burial on the site continued until the TRO was issued.

The TRO was issued on the 17th, the day before the funeral and according to reports, funeral was held in Koror and deceased was buried at the Catholic cemetery in Koror.

So far no legal response has been filed by the defendants Ngireblekuu and Koskelin on the matter. (L.N. Reklai)
