Category 1 cyclone off New Caledonia

NOUMEA, 29 JANUARY 2018 (RNZ PACIFIC) — A tropical cyclone named Fehi is looming to the northwest of New Caledonia.

According to the New Zealand Met Service, Fehi is moving in a south-southeast direction and is expected to pass to the west of New Caledonia. [restrict]

According to the Service said that it is classified as a category one cyclone but it is not expected to intensify.

New Caledonia’s met service describes the system as a weak low.

However, people in the northern half of the main island and those along the east coast will get up to 200mm of rain and experience gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour.

According to the Met Service, the system is expected to move south of 25S tomorrow afternoon or early evening, and is expected to remain a CAT1 system as it is moving towards “unfavorable environment”. (PACNEWS) [/restrict]
