Boat fuel thefts rising at public docks

Boat owners that moor their boats at public docks, PC dock and Happy Landing dock areas are complaining of growing incidents of fuel thefts from their moored boats in the areas.

In last month alone over five boats have been raided with total of about 94 gallons of fuel stolen with one boat losing 52 gallons at one incident.

Some of the boaters at PC dock are even offering $200 reward to anyone with information that will lead to an arrest.

According to the boaters, they’ve reported to the police but so far, no result, meanwhile, thefts continue.

The thief or thieves are pumping the fuel out from the boat tanks but one boater Mr. Malsol says, his boat’s smaller fuel tank was just taken from his boat.

There are limited number of public docking areas in Koror where people can moor their boats and these areas do not have securities to monitor moored boats.  Theft of fuel from boats have long plagued boaters using these public mooring sites. (L.N. Reklai)
