The Belau Employers Alliance (BEEA) and Belau Family School and Community Association (BFSCA) held a join membership conference on February 21, 2018 at PCC Cafeteria.
Approximately 200 participants comprised of employers, teachers, students, parents, and community members attended the conference. [restrict]
In line with the Presidential Proclamation designating 2018 as the Year of Good Health, the conference themes were Developing College and Career Ready Students and Promoting Healthy Lifestyle in the Workplace.
Education Minister Sinton Soalablai opened the joint conference. His opening remarks focused on current initiatives for developing college and career ready students including strengthening wellness and healthy lifestyle in schools.
The conference featured a presentation by the Ministry of Finance on raising awareness on current government initiatives for attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Ministry of Health followed with a presentation on promoting worksite wellness programs and NCD Hybrid Survey results.
Dr. Patrick Tellei of Palau Community College then provided an update on PCC career and technical education program in addition to technical training programs underway for implementing RPPL 9-22 in preparing Palauans for the local workforce.
In emphasizing the conference theme of Promoting Healthy Lifestyle in the Workplace, Palau Pacific Resort, Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health presented examples of wellness programs being implemented in several workplaces targeting employees to become healthier and productive workers.
The BFSCA NCD Nutrition Focus Group made a presentation about healthy eating lifestyle and food security.
The Ministry of Education and Mindszenty High School concluded the presentations by highlighting current physical education and after-school programs being implemented in schools to engage students in physical activities and healthy lifestyle.
The conference provided a great opportunity for BEEA and BFSCA members to engage with key partners on strategies and collaborative opportunities for advancing this year’s themes of Developing College and Career Ready Students and Promoting Healthy Lifestyle in the Workplace.
BEEA and BFSCA officers also extended a sincere appreciation for the assistance provided by many private companies, government agencies, civil societies, students, parents, and community members for a successful conference this year. [/restrict]
