February 8, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Early Wednesday morning, 3 masked men in a stolen 35’ footer tour boat, attempted to burn tour boats belonging to Palau Pacific International Tour company at M-Dock area. The PPIT is registered to Robert Tkel and managed by Mr. Kuin Jun Sui. [restrict]

According to police, the security camera caught the masked men throwing what looks like flaming bottles at the boats. There were about 10 boats moored at this location.

Following exchanges between the security guards and the masked men, the masked men sped away from the site and the guards were able to put out the flames in the two boats.

The boat that was used in the attempted arson was found later on Wednesday afternoon at Ngesaol area and according to the employee of the Sea World tour boat, very little fuel was used because the tank which was filled up earlier was still full.

Police reports that the case is still under investigation and they have no suspects yet.  The security camera images are not clear enough to identify the perpetrators.

Competition for customers is one of the suspected causes of such incidents while others claim bad blood between foreign owners.

This attempted arson is the 3rd such incidents since 2016.  The first two resulted in boats damaged extensively. [/restrict]
