Around 300 participants took part in a walkathon last Saturday to help promote this year’s male health conference later in the summer.
Hosted by conference co-host Ngardmau State, the 5-mile walkathon took participants from the police substation adjacent to the Compact Road through a scenic route to the Ngardmau Dock and back. Minister of Health Dr. Emais Roberts and Community and Cultural Affairs Minister BaklaiTemengil-Chilton were among those participating.
Close to 100 members of the 2018 Micro Games Team Palau also joined Ngardmau Governor Johnston B. Aderkroi, state residents and many others for the early morning event. Following the walkathon, participants enjoyed a light snack, free T-shirts, music from Malo, and many won raffle prizes ranging from airtime and gas vouchers to a $300 cash grand prize.
Coordinated by the Ministry of Health and the Ngardmau State Office of the Governor, the walkathon was the first in a series of events to promote and highlight the 6th Male Health Conference scheduled for August 14, 2018. Upcoming events include a fishing derby and a concert.
Ngardmau State and the Ministry of Health have established an organizing committee that has met regularly since February to organize the conference. President Tommy E. Remengesaur, Jr. has declared 2018 as the “Year of Good Health.”
Governor Aderkroi extends his appreciation to Minister Roberts, Minister Temengil-Chilton and Team Palau, and everyone who helped make the walkathon a huge success. And look forward to the community’ support and participation in upcoming events. (PR)
