Age 25, he is so far the youngest person to declare his candidacy to Palau’s national congress upper house, the Senate. “I did not just decide to run recently,” stated Aric Nakamura in an interview. “This is something that I’ve have been thinking about for about 2 years now. I’ve been thinking about going into public service,” he added.
He said that he had started very young in the private sector, working in his father’s companies growing up. Since graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2013, he had returned to work with his father, former President Kuniwo Nakamura in their businesses.
“My father and I have talked about this a lot,” referring to the idea of going into public service. “I know I am young but I think if I can get in, I can be an example to many young people who think that being in public service is for older people. I want to express that “Reng ra Omesiou”, that desire to serve, is in young and old,” expressed Aric.
“There is a different feeling when you work for yourself, for money and when you serve the public. Serving the public comes from deep within,” commented former President Kuniwo Nakamura whose illustrious political career also began when he joined the Congress of Micronesia at the young age of 26.
Mr. Aric Nakamura, holds BA in Economics and BA in Political Science from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. He also holds a certificate in Aviation Technology (student pilot) from Monterey Peninsula College, CA. He is currently the Over-all Operations Manager of Belau Transfer and Terminal Group of Companies. [/restrict]
