Aguon reappointed as NEA director

Narcotics Enforcement Agency (NEA) Director Ismael Aguon

President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. reappointed Ismael Aguon as director of the Narcotics Enforcement Agency (NEA), saying that he is confident the latter will be able to assume the role.

In his letter of appointment dated May 10, Remengesau said that Aguon is a perfect candidate for the post especially after having held the position previously.

Remengesau also reminded the appointee on his duty to continue building up the agency to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs.

The president also asked Aguon to not only go after illegal drugs but also to seek the help of the community in shunning the presence of illegal drugs.

Aside from that, the president also underscored the importance of educating the youth about the harmful effects of drugs and that the administration is ready to extend its support for anti-drug campaign.

Aguon was first appointed as director of the two-year-old agency after its creation in March 2017. He was also the head of the now defunct Belau Drug Enforcement Task Force (BDETF).

BDETF was dissolved following the issuance of an executive order that created NEA as a permanent agency under the Ministry of Justice. (By Rhealyn C. Pojas)
