Firefighters battled the fire at the M-Dock landfill at least 21 hours since it started at about 5 p.m. on April 2.
Based on the information provided by the Ministry of Justice’s office, the fire was fully extinguished at 2 p.m. yesterday. [restrict]
Keiden Kintol, Special Assistant to Vice-President and Public Relation/Information Representative, in an email said that according to a report from the Division of Fire and Rescue, that when firefighters responded to the scene, a pile of tires situated on the northern side of the dump near the entrance is already burning.
The fire at the landfill cause thick, black smoke to blanket the sky late afternoon of Sunday.

Company assisted the Division with water pump and two of their water
Kintol said that it took at least 21 hours to put out fire with an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 gallons of water were used with and unspecified amount of salt water pumped out from the ocean.
The damage of the fire has yet to be assessed but no one was reported injured during the blaze. [/restrict]
