The Embassy of Japan in Palau is pleased to announce this year’s scholarship recipient under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s (MEXT) annual scholarship program. The government of Japan offers four kinds of full scholarship programs for Palauan nationals to study in Japan: Research, Undergraduate, Specialized Training College or Teacher Training Programs. This year’s Japanese Government scholarship for the Post-Graduate Research Program was awarded to Mr. David Mason to study Urban Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Tokyo from October 2017 to March 2019. Ms. Loyola Darius, who also under the same program studied International Cooperation and graduated with a Masters degree from Kobe University, was invited to the Embassy of Japan to share her experience in Japan and to provide useful information to Mr. Mason as he prepares to go to Japan for his studies.

The scholarship fully covers round trip air tickets, tuition, and monthly stipend. Mr. Mason is the 70th Palauan student to receive the MEXT scholarship since its inception in 1982. Ambassador Toshiyuki Yamada congratulated Mr. Mason and expressed his good wishes for his success. The Embassy of Japan hopes that upon completion of his studies Mr. Mason will return to Palau and contribute to the development of his country.
