Eleven Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) employees earned Master Lineman certificates after completing training.

The training dubbed as the Pacific Lineman training included classroom lectures and numerous field trainings that lasted for 12 weeks.

Witnesses in attendance at the graduation and presentation of certificates included Board Vice

Chairperson Eden Ridep Uchel, Board Director Ted Telchalb Merep, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kione J. Isechal, and the management.

In his speech, Instructor Henry “Spike” Lee emphasized the importance of training local people to take care of their own utilities. He further thanked PPUC for giving him the opportunity to help.

One of the graduates, Masao Umedib, shared his experience at PPUC and undergoing the training. He said the training was successful in terms of technical education as well as the development of interpersonal skills.

“I started at PPUC, a young man in need of job, but then my passion for electric operations sparked and from then on, I wake up every morning with a smile on my face knowing that I love what I do and have a great team by my side,” Umedib said.

CEO Isechal expressed how proud he is of all the graduates and is more confident now that PPUC has gained 11 certified master linemen.

“From a line loss of 20 back in 2013 to 13.75 this year, your work as electrical linemen has contributed to this significant improvement. The Board and I continue to support the development and training of our staff,” CEO Isechal added. (PR)
